While Officer West worked his second job at Jackson Park Hospital he is encouraged to adopt an abandoned infant by Doctor Kaufman. Kaufman made up excuses to keep the baby in the hospital while West decides if he wants to adopt the baby. After West helped a young teen who stole from someone he decided he had to try and adopt the abandoned little boy to give him a chance to be in life.Officer West finally found a lawyer who helped start the process of adopting the abandoned infant.

Officer West made the tough choice of quitting his second job to adopt Joseph. The adoption wasn’t easy since Officer West wasn’t married or engaged. He was a single man working a dangerous job in the dangerous part of Chicago, Illinois.  Officer West was told multiple times it wasn’t possible, but he didn’t give up.

Officer West’s faith in God made him the first bachelor to adopt in the state of Illinois.      

 “Officer… why don't you adopt him?” is a must read for anyone, especially men who want to adopt a child.
