Texting and Driving And In Memory of Alex Brown

I was watching Extreme Makeover tonight. The show was in memory of a girl named Alex Brown  age 17 who was texting and driving. She died while she was texting and driving. I don't text and drive as I've seen how dangerous it is. Her parents are advocating for laws against texting and driving. I applaud them for being so instrumental about making driving safer. Her parents started a foundation in memory of her called R.A.B. (Remember Alex Brown) it's bad enough we have drunk drivers and aggressive drivers without adding people talking on the phone and texting.
You can take the Pledge to not text and drive here

 From  Montes Hearld Blog
"Alex Marie Brown was killed on November 10, 2010 in Lubbock, Texas after her truck rolled and she was ejected from the truck. Investigators said she was driving above the speed limit and was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. In addition, her cell phone record indicated that she had replied to a text message moments before losing control of the vehicle. "

My daughter is in driver education (God Be with me.) and they're teaching the kids about the dangers of texting and driving. The Police Department is going to bring Golf Carts for kids to try and drive while texting. I think it's a necessary step to make things safer for our kids. They have been watching videos with the affects of texting and driving. She told me she wouldn't text and talk on the phone while driving. We've told her if it's that important pull your car over and talk or text then.

  • Do You Text and Drive?
  • Have you talked to your kids about texting and driving?
  • Have You Seen The Affects of Distracted Driving?

  1. Hi.I was watching "Extreme Makeover" as well tonight. It was on when I woke up from a nap. And right away,as soon as I saw her parents and little sister in her room,I just started crying my eyes out.
I have been spreading the word about their story on facebook,Premium Blogging on FanBox, everywhere, including twitter,in hopes of helping them to spread the word so that nobody else has to go through what this family has had to endure. I just couldn't imagine out-living my 3 kids, who are all over the age of 18 now. They are now forever in my heart.Forever in my thoughts.Forever in my prayers<3

  2. I am so glad you posted this. I posted a link to a video today too about this same topic.

Even though I didn't see this Home Make Over show...I heard about it and that's why I was looking for something moving on that point.

I think it is imperative that we [especially as bloggers] continue to pursue educating on this topic of Not Texting while driving. Every day that someone listens is a day that someone will potentially be saved...so you posting this, causing someone else to read it or talk to their child could have very well led someone NOT to text while driving...which could have very well saved someone else.

  3. Helens' GrandDaughter,

Thanks for the visit. I cannot imagine outliving my daughter either. Too many times people take unnecessary chances while driving.
I feel for her family. It's sad.

    Thanks for the comment.
I'm glad to post anything to help save a life. Life is too short to start without making unsafe choices.
