I'm stay home with my family to enjoy New Year's Eve. So many People end up in major accidents or dead each year on New Year's Eve. Some are innocent people driving down the road, while others are driving drunk causing accidents. I don’t drink alcohol as I've seen the affects it has on people in my life. It has robbed families of their family member and friends both dead and alive. If you are affected by alcoholism find an Alanon, Acoa, or AA meeting in your area. There are a lot of online groups too.
Here's some statistics from MADD:
- MADD serves a victim or survivor of drunk driving every 10 minutes.
- One in three people will be involved in an alcohol-related crash in their lifetime.
- 50 to 75% of convicted drunk drivers continue to drive on a suspended license.
- High school students who use alcohol or other substances are five times more likely to drop out of school or believe good grades are not important.
- One in three 8th graders drinks alcohol.
- One in five teens binge drink. Only 1 in 100 parents believes his or her teen binge drinks.
- Every minute, one person is injured from an alcohol-related crash.
- Car crashes are the leading cause of death for teens and one out of three of those is alcohol related.

- In 2009, 10,839 people were killed in alcohol-impaired-driving crashes. These alcohol-impaired-driving fatalities accounted for 32 percent of the total motor vehicle traffic fatalities in the United States.
- In 2009, a total of 1,314 children age 14 and younger were killed in motor vehicle traffic crashes. Of those 1,314 fatalities, 181 (14%) occurred in alcohol-impaired driving crashes. Out of those 181 deaths, 92 (51%) were occupants of a vehicle with a driver who had a BAC level of .08 or higher, and another 27 children (15%) were pedestrians or pedalcyclists struck by drivers with a BAC of .08 or higher.
- The rate of alcohol impairment among drivers involved in fatal crashes in 2009 was four times higher at night than during the day.
