The problem is a child under 10 doesn't have the mental capacity to understand a video camera. All they know is they can see themselves on television. They don't understand a video camera can ruin some one's life. Small brains don't understand the effects of video tapping. All they know is how to play with their friends and go to school. Everyone has done something you regret, but would you like it uploaded to YouTube? Chances are the answer is no. Before you put technology in a child's hands think long and hard. It's not a popularity contest. It's a matter of life.
A video camera is a beautiful way to preserve memories and protect people from criminals. But an adult who’s responsible enough to understand a video camera is a better choice. Yes, I know it's a cute toy, but you could buy them Barbie without a video camera and spend some time taking pictures on your camera and developing them. Children have no business learning technology until they understand it. The only exception is playing a game on the computer with adult supervision. If you don't have a password on your computer it might be time to do it. Technology is both good and evil. It just depends whose hands it gets in and how it's used.
What do you think about it and would your buy one?

I think that children do need to be supervised with all the technology they have access to. We should also explain to them in a way that they can understand without frightening them why we all need to be careful.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter stopped playing with Barbie dolls when she was 5 so she would have been too young to handle a video doll on her own.
