Did You Get Your Children Off the Sofa Today?

Exercise is just as important for adults as it is for children of all ages. When children get their exercise it benefits both you and your children. They will not have all that bottled up energy that makes you want to pull out your hair. Exercise is important for your children's emotional, mental and physical well being. To get your children exercising it may require a bit of creativity.

First, you need to find something your children like to do outside. It may require you get involved in order for your children to participate in some kind of exercise. To find out what they like to do outside you will need to talk with your children about there likes and dislikes of outdoor exercise. It is not a good idea not to call it exercise when you talk to them. Some children like team sports while other children like individual exercise.

Its has become normal for children to want to stay on the sofa today. If you are looking for a bit of motivation to get your children off the sofas add up the number of hours your children are sitting on the sofa in front of the television. The hardest children to get off the sofa is the ones that play video games for hours on end. Since the introduction of the WII Nintendo video game systems it has got both children and adults motivated. No one likes when a video game says they are fat. I do not think there is better motivation then to outsmart the computer in a game. My daughter received a WII for her birthday and Christmas from her Great Grandmother. She is a come and go video game lover, but she really enjoys her WII. Right now she only has the two games, but it is enough to keep her busy. She has the WII Sports game that came with the system which has many different games. She has ADHD so one game with multiple games is great for her. I bought her the game WII play which came with a remote and a game with multiple games on it.

Here are a few things to motivate you to get your children off the sofa. The University of Minnesota researchers followed some Minnesota High school children all the way through adulthood. They found that the same children who were watching television for five hours a day tended to eat more and more junk food years later. By eating a significant amount of junk food it puts the adults at a higher risk of multiple diseases.

Some games that do not require a video game system are: Soccer, Baseball, Football,Softball, T-Ball, Walking the dog, Walking around the block, Track, and Basketball; just to name a few things.

Did you know?

For every hour of television your teenager is at an 8 percent higher risk of being depressed according to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.

What games do your children like to do? You might just inspire a parent or child to get off the sofa today.

  2. Mabel Low,
Thanks for stopping in. I think too much of anything isn't good for anyone. I'll see about writing a post about it in the future
