Mr or Mrs Television Will You Love Me?

When I was a child you didn't see all the sex, violence and everything in between on television. Today you see just about everything and anything on television. All the parental controls in the world cannot guarantee that your child won’t see something they're too young or immature to handle.

The violence in the television affects everyone differently, but I think it desensitizes you. If you continuously see someone murder another person day after day, it'll get to the point you'll think its normal. The effect of violence isn’t totally understood today, but I think it'll get to the point people won't react to violence. The sex scenes on the shows don't leave much for the imagination and people wonder why the rate of teen pregnancy is higher and children are having sex earlier and earlier in life. I've heard of girls as young as 9 years already having sex with multiple partners. How in the world does a 9 year old become sexually active? My first thought is they must have seen it somewhere, you cannot convince me otherwise. Did the child see a parent having sex? Were they molested? Did they see it on TV? Did a peer talk them into it? No matter what the answer is children are seeing sex way too much.

I'm going to rant for a bit, so sit down hold on to your chair and don't leave your computer for a few minutes. One of the things that totally disgusts me is all the commercials for male ejaculation, sex, Flomax, Viagra and every other herbal medication for the same condition, you get the point. My problem with these commercials is a child should not be exposed to these commercials and it puts the parents in a bad spot. Can you imagine your little one under 5 years old saying,” Mommy what's ejaculation? Or what's Viagra? Or a sexually Transmitted Disease? Mind you most of them won't be able to pronounce the words, but they’ll still ask questions. I don't know about you, but the birds and the bees isn't something most parents look forward to talking to their kids about. I know it was a hard enough having the discussion with my daughter let alone being forced by a big boy drug company to talk about such a sensitive topic.

Okay, here I go again. How many hours a day does your child spend on television or playing a video game? The video games are just as bad about exposing children to violence, sex and once again everything else. I know of a teenager that literally spends all his waking hours playing video games. Granted the parent should do something about the issue. But just imagine the affects of playing a video game for hours and hours. Is it healthy-No Way? Too much video games, computer time or television is unhealthy to anyone, but its affects are worse with children because their brains are not totally developed. Just to name a few things a child may become anti-social, violent, obese, and depressed. I know I've missed some of the affects, but you get the idea. Children need socialization, love, and to feeling wanted and needed. A video game, television or computer isn’t going to give them any of these.

I agree with you. Instead of sitting children in front of television frequently, parents should fulfill their children' forming times with good things such as books, music, nature, playing and other interactive activities...

I used to be one of those lifeless zombies that feeds myself with anything the computer has to offer, and seriously, i feel like half of my youth has been wasted. But perhaps if you don't overdo things, there is always a benefit from what you do. Like i used to be one who faces difficulty in expressing myself and as a result, always entering into depression. Now, i don't anymore because i learn so much online :D

Lina,
I have to agree with you. Kids need balance I believe. My daughter is a volunteer which I think gives her a sense of doing something good for the community. She looks forward to it each week. Kids need to have parents who pay attention, rather then going through the motions of parenting.
Thanks for visiting.

Mabel,
I feel like a zombie a lot, partly because of lupus. Thanks for commenting
